2012: The End Of High Stakes Poker

The American TV channel GSN does not broadcast High Stakes Poker (HSP) anymore because of financial problems. Black Friday was the last step to stop many Poker TV broadcasts. High Stakes Poker was one of the most known TV shows but it has been cancelled. Its last season was in 2011.

HSP started its first season in 2006 with players like Doyle Brunson, Ted Forrest, Phil Ivey and Daniel Negreanu. In the coming years the most known players were invited to the show and fans could observe many memorable moments and great hands.

The first problems occurred in Season 7 when the two sponsoring sites, Full Tilt Poker and Poker Stars could not agree with each other, therefore only the professionals of Poker Stars took part in that season. The last hit was Black Friday when online poker had to leave the USA and there was a lot less interest in poker broadcasts. The financial difficulties were not solved and this meant Season 7 was the last season of HSP.

Unfortunately not only HSP had to close its doors but many other popular poker series were shut down as well. Poker After Dark, NBC Heads Up Poker Championship and The Big Game were all cancelled while online poker rooms were promoting them. These broadcasts lost their importance since online poker lost 99% of its players in the USA.

There is one exception: the World Series of Poker is not in danger as ESPN has a contract to broadcast the series until 2014.

Although TV broadcasts are closed you still have a chance to play online with great rakeback options.
